"Description Writing in Professional Context"
In general, Writing in Professional Context is one of many lectures in English Department. The code of this lecture is IG 415, with 2 SKS credit. As a student in English Department UPI, this lecture is studied in 2nd semester and involved on MKKP-Mata Kuliah Keahlian Program. The lecturer of Writing in Professional Context at last time was Prof. A. Chaedar Alwasilah, M. A., Ph. D. and Mrs. Iyen Nurlaelawati, M. Pd. Writing in Professional Context is one of the parts of Integrated Skills for students in Study Program English Department Education, Faculty of Language and Arts UPI. Writing in Professional Context is focus on the writing of critics, studying kind of text (Exposition, Description, Argumentation, and Narration), and literature, like poems and short story. Student’s writing production is discussed by nearing collaboration with peer editing and tutorial by lecturer. There are 3 purpose of Writing in Professional Context lecture. The first, students have capability to developing general idea in to an essay. Students can write essay in to a few of kind of text (Exposition, Description, Argumentation, and Narration). The last one, students have capability to developing idea in to literacy, like poem and short story.
The evaluation system of this lecture is based on student’s participation in class discussion (10%), assignment week (20%), mid-test (30%), last evaluation (35%), and self evaluating (5%). Minimal attendance 80% is a requirement to get the last score. Further, last evaluation of Writing in Professional Context is making a bulletin that contain interesting discourse and articles. One bulletin is arranged by 7 students. And self evaluating is an assignment that students write by themselves, it’s contain about what they know, what they want to know, and what they have learned on Writing in Professional Context. It is made in to an essay.

In Writing in Professional Context, we had 16 session or meeting. On the first session, the topic is introduction lecture. Second session, student learned about Mechanic Editing. Next, student also learned Sentence Editing with essay revision. Identification Trash of Writing Product is learned in the fourth and fifth session, students also reading poem and writing poem in this session. Writing a Critic and discuss about articles is learned in sixth session. Editing Process is learned further on seventh session, by collaboration activity as well as editing other student’s written. Mid-test semester is held on 8th session. After that, student learned about EDAN (Exposition, Description, Argumentation, and Narration) reading a few of articles and identifying them. On the 10th-14th session, student learned further about EDAN one by one. On 15th session, students learned about editing narration and editing other student’s short story. The last one of the session (16th session), students get the last evaluation that explained on the last paragraph.
One of the things that important in Writing in Professional Context is reference. Our references are books, especially Pokoknya Menulis by A. Chaedar Alwasilah and Senny Suzanna Alwasilah (2005). In this lecture student must prepare one special folder to archive their result of writing.
Writing in Professional Context has an extraordinary contribution to developing student’s skill. It is also support the student as a foundation and basic to continue to Writing for Academic Purposes.
